Mennonite Disaster Service
There was amazing enthusiasm and dedication among Mennonite Disaster Service volunteers on Saturday, April 25th, as they planted trees in the burned-out areas of Drake, Colorado. Members of our congregation and others participated. Just listen to what one volunteer had to say . . . and then take a look at the photos!
“People from ages 10 to 84 bundled up and drove many hours to help restore a community that had been ravaged by four fires. Whether young or old, these volunteers had one thing in common: a desire to be the hands and feet of Jesus, by helping people we didn’t even know and caring for God’s creation. Some of the young people were so engaged, they did not even want to stop for lunch! Others, youth and seasoned workers, exclaimed that it was beautiful to see the transformation of the burned hillsides, as we planted hope in the form of 480 small ponderosa pine trees. This is the kind of excitement we hope will sustain Mennonite Disaster Service for years to come!” — Carole Suderman
